10/28/2008 Newsletter: Happy Halloween!
More Story Hour Times Added! We are pleased to announce that we will be adding two additional story hour times each week during the month of November. Our story hours have been gaining in popularity and have been filling up weeks in advance.
We will still keep our regular story hour times of 10:30-11:00 AM on Monday and Thursday mornings, plus we will be adding a second story hour each Monday and Thursday from 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM!
Story hours at The Teacehrs' Lounge are highly interacitve 1/2 hour sessions that focus on a selected weekly theme. Each story hour is filled with stories, games, songs, fingerplays, and art activities that promote early childhood skills for children ages 2-6.
Story hours are always free. To see a complete list of themes for the month of November, check out our on-line calendar. Please call the store at 314-894-7000 to register, because space is limited.
What's New Have you seen our collection of Anamalz? These adorable wooden, poseable animals will thrill preschoolers. Choose from lions, cows, elephants, and more! Anamalz will make great stocking stuffers for the holiday season!

Learn about these fun friends in the farm fields! We will read Scarecrows by Calvin Harris, The Scarecrow's Hat by Ken Brown, and The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown. You will have a chance to make and take your very own scarecrow!

Demo Bar Item of the Week Kubit2me is one of our newest products that is sure to be a hit in your classroom this year. This cute, colorful, furry cube is covered in trendy denim pockets. Teachers place cards in each of the pockets and toss the cube to the students. A student selects a card from any of the pockets and answers questions on the cards they chose. Once that student is finished the card goes into the completed cards pocket. That student then tosses the cube to the next student.
This game currently comes with cards to review ABC's and 123's, but it could easily be adapted to fit any grade level. Teachers can fill the pockets with math flash cards, social studies flash cards, or teacher-created flash cards. This would be a fun review game before a test or a great tool to use when you need a quick 5-minute activity to fill a gap in your day.
Sale Item of the Week.jpg) The Fortune Cookie Game is a great way for students to reinforce the rules of grammar while practicing composition and sentence structure in a social classroom setting. It also allows students the opportunity to utilize current vocabulary words in their creative writing.
A set of playing cards, appropriate for 2 to 10 students in grades 6 to 9, is composed of 54 unique cards, each containing two words from three different basic parts of speech. The object of the game is for the student to create a fortune that is composed of as many words as possible from the words listed on his/her card. The student's score is based on the number of words that the student uses from the card and the cleverness of the fortune he/she creates as judged by student peers. Current vocabulary words are also encouraged in the game by offering bonus points for their use.

Thanks for Attending Our Teacher Workshop I just wanted to thank everyone who attended our first teacher workshop of the school year. We had a great time and shared a lot of terrific ideas on how to use accents in the classroom. Everyone went home with a few make-and-takes and a book full of ideas!
