If you are an early childhood teacher in grades PreK-1, you will not want to miss this creative class which will focus on a spectacular make-and-take Big Book that you can take right to your classroom.
Each attendee will use accents to create their own Big Book copy of “Skip Counting” which focuses on counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. We will also discuss other innovative techniques that will allow you to make a variety of other Big Books personalized for your class and your curriculum. You will also receive great extension activities that can be used with the Big Books in your classroom. Each attendee will leave this workshop with a certificate of attendance.

Winter Workshops Don't forget about our next Winter Workshop this Saturday, January 16th from 10:00-11:30 AM. You won't want to miss it!
Our workshops are always great hands-on learning sessions filled with tons of ideas that you can bring right to your classroom. No boring lectures. Just a laid-back class that's actually fun to attend. Bring your friends for a great day out. Everyone will create a make-and-take project to take home and will receive a certificate of attendance that will count towards your needed workshop hours! You can even make a day of it and head out to lunch with your friends afterwards.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Re-teach (For Grades PreK-3)
Saturday, Jan. 16th 10:00-11:30 AM
Start thinking outside the box! Learn how to reuse boxes, egg cartons, and plastic containers to create wonderful games for your class. Use these games as learning centers or whole class games to help re-teach the lessons you’ve been working on with your students. For each game, we will explore how to make various versions for different grade levels. Each attendee will make a game to take home and will receive a certificate of attendance.

Game of the Week Receive 10% off Safari Rush Hour this week! Feel the rumble of the herd in this exciting safari adventure. Players set up the game board according to pictures displayed on different challenge cards, then try to maneuver their Rover through a safari of wild animals, including zebras, lions, and rhinos. Fifty different challenges offer hours of engaging play, while fostering problem-solving and strategy skills. Safari Rush Hour offers similar game play to the original Rush Hour, except your Escape Rover can move sideways as well as up-down, and you play on a larger 7x7 grid. This is a great game for kids ages 6 and up.
Scott from The Teachers' Lounge has this to say: This version of Rush Hour gets much harder than the original Rush Hour. One day, in between customers, I spent 45 minutes working on one level before I finally cheated to see the answer. It was amazingly complicated. If you are a Rush Hour expert, try the Safari version for a bigger challenge!

Story Hours Story hours at The Teachers' Lounge are highly interactive 1/2 hour sessions that focus on a selected weekly theme. Each story hour is filled with stories, games, songs, fingerplays, and art activities that promote early childhood skills for children ages 2-6. Parents are asked to stay within the store while children are participating in this activity.
Registration for story hours opens at noon on Monday for the following week. Just call the store at 314-894-7000 to register.
January 14th: Penguins Story Hour

Have you visited the penguins at the zoo this winter? Since this is their favorite time of the year we will read Penguins, Penguins Everywhere by Bob Barner and The Emperor’s Egg by Martin Jenkins. We will make penguin puppets to take out in the cold weather.
January 18th & 21st: Polar Bear Story Hour

So many winter friends to talk about! Today we will discover the fun bears can have as we read A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker and Swim Polar Bear, Swim by Joan Stimson. We will make a cold weather friend to take home.

When the days are cold and dark, it is time to curl up with a good library book. Come and find out what a mouse and a lion are doing in a library filled with books as we read Library Mouse by Daniel Kirk and Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen. We will create our own books to read over and over again...
