Valentine Classroom Party Help

The popular question this week is, "What can I do for a classroom game for the last party of the school year? "

We have some answers.

JIngo is a very popular game. A pack has 30 cards in it that you can play with the whole class or you can play in small groups too. There are two levels of play where younger players can match pictures or words and older players can explore symbols, customs and traditions of the holiday by answering trivia-type questions with pictures on their card. Fill the card or get five in a row and you have a JINGO!

I also like to direct parents to our Mailbox Magazines that are filled with games and ideas for different age groups.

Check out the seasonal wall and create your own game with accents or borders or LIzzie's Take and Make Wall has kits that you can purchase that have all the pieces you need to create a game or a big book for the holiday.

Rock N Learn All Month

Last year I had a chance to preview several of the Rock N Learn DVDs. This company creates some fun and educational CDs and DVDs,entertaining their young audience and teaching at the same time. Make sure you check out the demo we have at the front counter and take a few minutes to preview the different titles from teaching the alphabet to helping kids figure out word problems. There are some great Science titles too.

Would You Like An Easy Way to Put On A Play?

So, Liz came in the store today wondering what she could do in her first grade class for the holidays.
"I need something simple " she says.. "They are used to doing the Thanksgiving Feast with costumes and food, but I want something easy without all the preparation."

We looked in our seasonal area and her answer was right there! Reader Theater Headbands. The set includes four headbands for the characters to wear with patterns to make more and Liz can either read the story or there is an actual play enclosed that her students can act out. It is that easy! (Not to mention all the other activities in the activity guide but you can keep it really simple and just do the play too!)

There is a set for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. I think she is set for both holidays!

Glad I could help Liz. I think your class will love it! Why not invite the parents? (Oh, that's right.,..keep it simple...)

More Frogs Have Arrived!

Our first shipment of frogs sold out quickly, but new frogs were just delivered to the store this morning. They are out in the store looking for someone to take them home. The customers who purchased our first set of frogs said that they make wonderful class pets because they are so easy to take care of. You only need to feed them twice a week, and their tanks only need to be cleaned a few times per year. Stop by the store soon before these guys are gone again!

We are Green!

Our new frogs are not the only thing that is green at The Teachers' Lounge! The Teachers' Lounge has been green and getting greener as the months go by. We recycle, reduce and reuse as much as we can. Right now, we recycle our aluminum soda cans and as much paper as we can, including packing paper from all the deliveries we receive. We re-use cardboard boxes and donate all of our bubble wrap, packing peanuts and bags of air to an in-home web business. We started using a water cooler instead of bottled water in our break area so that we don't add more plastic to the world and we even rinse and re-use our cups instead of grabbing a new one with every drink of water!
It is not hard to be mindful of leaving our footprint in this world. We hope your business, school or household is green and getting greener too! If you have any ideas of other ways to recycle, let us know!

Check Out This New Bulletin Board Set!

Carson Dellosa has just released The Very Hungry Caterpillar Bulletin Board Set just in time for the 40th Anniversay of the beloved book. Here are some pictures of our display of this cute set. The idea for this display was posted on Carson's facebook page, but we altered it a little bit.

This is a great bulletin board set to use for teaching the days of the week. We used sentence strips to write sentences from the story on our board. We highlighted the days of the week by writing them on a nameplate and attaching it to the sentence strips. We also attached library pockets behind the pieces of food that the caterpillar ate. If you attach a popsicle stick to the small caterpillar from the set, the students can move him around the board as they read the sentences.
