Guest Post

My Teachers Lounge is a Community.

And Community can not exist if only one voice does most of the talking.

And I know that you have something valuable to say, something important for the rest of us to hear.

Because of a commitment to this Community of educators, I will be featuring Guest Posts often. If you are interested in telling your story or sharing your Character Education idea here, consider the following guidelines:

1. Place of Inspiration, Not Debate.  We will hopefully have a broad range of teachers in this space, and I am going to intentionally choose to stay away from highly-controversial topics.  Don’t pick a fight with your post.

2.  Short and Sweet. Teachers are busy.  None of us has time to read a novel, and if we do, it’s probably not going to be about teaching.  Posts should be absolutely no more than 600 words.  Really, really.

3.  Artsy-Photos. Take a minute to look around the site, and you’ll see that the photos are well, pretty. Feel free to submit a photo with your post, but if it’s a fuzzy picture of your third grade class feeding a stray dog, well, please don’t be offended if I opt for a different one.  {A great place for free, high-quality photos is Flickr CreativeCommons.  Be sure to include the photo credit, though.}

4. Quality Writing. We will have English teachers reading, so you know, edit.

5. Broad Audience. Keep in mind that we will have teachers from all walks of life and from all levels of experience reading here.  We’ll have teachers in various grade levels and in a host of different subjects.  They will be of different races and genders,  faiths and philosophies.  Remember, Community and Inspiration are paramount.

6. Ideas for Posts.Lesson plans for character education {you’ve used before successfully}.  Ideas for positive classroom management {with an emphasis on character development in students.} Your teaching Story {how you became a teacher, experiences that have shaped you, what you’ve learned}.  Student Story {an experience with a student that has inspired you}.  Teacher-Struggle {a challenge most teachers face and ideas how to overcome it}. Famous Teachers {quotes/stories from actual teachers in the past which are inspiring}.  Improving the Art of Teaching {ways to become a better teacher}. Inspirational videos {to be used with students or for the teacher}.  Your Choice {anything you think fits with the theme of this site}.

Of course, your name will be sited with your post, along with any links to blog, school, site, or Twitter you may want noted.

Sound like something you’re interested in?  Email me your post, within the body of an email preferably, along with how long and in what capacity you are teaching, to Laura at

laura {at} the-teachers-lounge {dot} com .

Thank you, in advance, for wanting to invest in this Community of Teachers.  We’re better because you’re here.

And, really, we’re not just saying that.
